Review of Live and Let Die (1973) by Barney O — 31 Oct 2016
WHAT I LIKED: To bring in a new Bond, they shook up everything. Here we get something much more light-hearted and fun, but luckily this first Moore entry is more charming than silly. As a result, we see the benefit of it taking itself less seriously - a film that's charming and enjoyable and makes you smile. Sure it's less refined than previous Bonds, but the last few were getting a touch stale. This a a nice breath of fun fresh air, and a much-needed one too.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: As I said, it takes away some of the refinement and grittiness of Sean Connery's more developed Bonds. And it does mark the beginning of the goofy humour we know is yet to come...
VERDICT: An altogether lighter Bond film that's just a bit of fun. How nice it was before Moore went over the top.
