There is very little difference between the original and the '49 version. Simply the quality changed as equipment improved. The acting was just as phenomenal and carries through the years. I will always prefer the Jo from '49 as I felt she played the strong character quite well.

And in particular the scene regarding the donated hair was much stronger in the second version than even the first and most definitely the third.
