Review of Little Voice (1998) by Max W — 29 Nov 2008
The story is somewhat uneven but in fact it's merely a showcase for the amazing mimicry and vocal talents of Jane Horrocks, who plays a shy, nearly mute woman whose voice can sound like Judy Garland, Billie Holliday, Marilyn Monroe or Shirley Bassey at the drop of a hat.
Clearly the stage play on which this was based (written specifically for Ms. Horrocks) is intended as nothing more than a way to show her talent, and that it does: the climax of the movie is marvelous.
Other than that? Not a whole lot going on. Still, an enjoyable watch!
