Review of Little Shop of Horrors (1986) by Paul J — 07 Mar 2013
It's shocking just how well this 80's musical/comedy holds up. It doesn't feel dated at all and the songs (by Disney legend Alan Menken) are spectacular. The characters are all so memorable and the actors commit themselves fully.
The director's cut has a radically different ending (twenty extra minutes) that is far more bold and dark. Love it! Steve Martin's intro is classic comedy at its best. Also, the special effects are impeccable.
If they made it today, the plant would be entirely CGI. This animatronic approach is much better. Best of all, the film has plenty of heart and originality, making this film the true definition of a cult classic.
