I know why Alak Arkin stole that academy award! We don't know how he trained little Abigail, we just know the outcome, so this award isn't for that. It's because of his audacious act when he asks Steve Carell that even though Steve was a "fag", he could still appreciate what a thrill it was to reap the benefits of being in the army where you get to have four girls all for yourself for fun! And then all his profane activities and talks! I loved the end performance, granpa dying, family stealing his body from the hospital just to get to the contest in time, the tensions building up in the family and when Steve finally says, I think we can live with that! What a remarkable and unforgettable joyride it was!
