Review of Little Manhattan (2005) by Nor L — 16 Nov 2008
10 year olds falling in love. A pure, innocent love story, told from the kid's perspective. Younger audiences can relate to this time not too long ago. This is a nice, simple story driven by the story and the lead actor.
This movie reminds me all too well of Bridge To Terabithia (also starring Josh Hutchinson.), though I liked the female lead character in Terabithia better. This movie uses more of the adult characters and the setting, though.
New York provides a great backdrop (as it usually does in most romantic comedies) and shows you new unique places you may have never seen before. Great work from Cynthia Nixon (who I have yet to see give a half-hearted performance) and Bradley Whitford.
While their roles are small, they use their little screentime to the highest advantage. So if you want a sweet innocent love story that takes you back to your childhood days, check this out. It's worth the hour and a half.
