Review of Little Fish (2005) by Vicki C — 06 Jan 2008
Little Fish Is sublime. I love the character of Tracy, her strength in dealing with her addiction every single day, her unconditional love for Lionel just because he loved and accepted her mum, brother and her and looked after them albeit in a toxic and ultimately destructive way.
I love Tracy's salvation from re-using when she walks into a hall at Cabra to use the toilets for her shooting gallery, only to be saved by the sweet, angelic voices of the school kids singing Flame Tree.
I love the way Tracy is shown blocking out the world and all its harm by dunking herself fully clothed underwater at the pool. I love the images of Tracy as a little girl at the beach frolicking in the surf, unafraid, bold, happy, unharmed.
It is well acted by the best aussie talents, but it is a movie that you need to be in the mood for because it pounds you right from the start.
