Review of Little Evil (2017) by Keith J — 06 Jul 2018
I was expecting a horror-comedy film, what I got was so much more. This film puts a fun twist on the "Antichrist" genre. While light on the horror, but had comedy aplenty. Adam Scott's portrayal of Gary (stepdad to the spawn of Satan) was, let's face it, very similar to every other character he's played, but it works.
Bridgett Everett plays his best friend Al who is really the star of this film as she steals every scene she's in. Evangeline Lilly as the mother of Satan's offspring plays it as if she knows he's evil but he is still her son and her love is unconditional, which is mostly heartwarming but at other times frustrating for Gary.
Owen Atlus's spot on portrayal of Lucas the Antichrist gave me Deja Vu of Harvey Spencer Stevens as Damien in 1976's "The Omen." Towards the end of the film, the plot takes an unexpected turn which was surprising yet touching.
"Little Evil" teaches us that no one's fate is predetermined and all of us have the power and free will to make our own destiny. I would recommend this film to anyone, not just stepdads.
