Review of Little Children (2006) by Bryanna H — 01 Apr 2009
I didn't think I'd like this at all because I'm not a suburban 30-something, I figured that the characters would be completely unrelatable. However, I found myself feeling deja vu, the implications of which were extremely disturbing to me at first. That is until I realized the allegorical content of the story. Each character is an archetype of virtual every personality. I felt connections to several characters. It was a brilliantly written black comedy/drama. I was laughing very hard at some points and tearing up at others. The ending, for some reason, felt a bit incomplete, especially for Brad. I felt like it came to a logical conclusion for the other characters, but for me, it ended mid-sentence for Brad. The only other issue I had was with the narration, unless you are Fight Club, narration is just a cop out for not being able to adequatly display meaning on the screen. The narration baffled me, because I thought the cast actually did a superb job of conveying what their character was thinking at any given moment. The narration just got in the way.
Oh yeah, and let me just say about the sex scenes: "DAT ASS".
