Review of Little Caesar (1931) by K D — 01 Aug 2008
Really interesting look at the rise and fall of the anti-hero in one of the first classic gangster movies. Edward G. Robinson fit the part so well that it just became the mold and the standard for all gangster characters to follow.
The chomping of the cigar, symbolic now in it's stigma, originated from this role. Just try talking like Robinson did in this movie and you'll see how no one else could really pull it off. And the classic ending seemed so genuine, as if Rico was really surprised to see death arriving.
