Review of Little Caesar (1931) by Austin B — 07 Sep 2008
The best of the early gangster films. The storie shave done and redone since (the rise and fall story, plus the two friends, one trying to go legit, story), but it still is the most engaging. Rico is one of the oldest gangers in the book, but he still can hold up to some of the toughest punks in modern crime cinema, thanks to Robinson's commanding performance.
It's not like the epic pictures like The Godfather or Once Upon A Time In America, but in this case, it quality over quantity. More excitement and danger than Once Upon. A must see of the crime genre.
