Review of Little Caesar (1931) by Tommy M — 18 Feb 2010
The founding father of all the gangster masterpieces that have succeeded it!
'The Godfather' trilogy will always be the golden shrine of such a corrupt era in history, but one can't possibly understand the significance of gangster cinema until they have seen "the one that started it all.".
Both Coppola and Scorsese had to learn from somebody, and in this absorbing tale of violence and betrayal, Mervyn LeRoy introduced moviegoers to the true nature of "the underworld." The breakthrough performance of Edward G. Robinson is just icing on the cake!
