Review of Little Buddha (1993) by Lukas B — 19 Jul 2007
True story: At the time this came out, a good friend of mine had a housemate who despised Keanu Reeves (she had just recently seen "Speed"). My friend and I , knowing nothing about the movie other than the title, really, tried to convice her to come along, but she wasn't in the mood.
"Come on," we said, "It's not like it'll have Keanu Reeves in it." She still declined, so off we went. About halfway through the movie (maybe even a bit more), we finally realised that, "Wait, that's not.
.. Is it? No, it couldn't be... No, I think it is... Is it?!? Oh my god, Keanu Reeves *IS* IN THIS MOVIE!" Needless to say, we found this profoundly hilarious. However, that's one of the best things you can say about this movie: if you didn't know Keanu Reeves was in it, you might not realise that he, in fact, IS.
That is to say, he does quite a good job (and the makeup helps disguise him, obviously). It's a great little movie, very touching, and a good way of introducing Buddhism to those unfamiliar with it.
And who knew Keanu Reeves could act? He should do it more often.
