Review of Little Big Man (1970) by Rod A — 30 Jul 2009
Delicious Dustin Delivers A difficult Tour De Force.
Please, please do not allow the Black Humour overshadow the serious subject matter in this movie and how controversial it was for it's time...the reason Dustin's performance was overlooked, causing quite a good ol' boy stir back in the day.
Hard for me to really clasify this or recommend this as a comedy.
Don't get me wrong, the funny vingettes are PRICELESS! But sprinkled like pepper amongst some horrific imagery! Everytime you let yourself relax & laugh, you are forced to witness quite disturbing realistic brutalities. Images still haunt me to this day and I prepare myself with each viewing, sometimes even to avert my eyes!
I mean did some of you really watch this!
Now of course my daughter and I to this day "go snake eyes!" with fond fun remembrance, but future viewers beware!
This is a beautiful movie in more than the scenery. Beautiful Characters accompanied by a beautiful soundtrack from The Band!
Chief Dan George cleverly creates the most endearing grandfather in history!
This , Soldier Blue, Campy Billy Jacks along with counter culture initiated the beginnings of changes to our history books folks!
Many theaters across the country refused to play this movie!
My daughter loves for me to recount the fact that in my college town in the 70's...TV went off air @ 10:00pm and All In The Family was pre-empted by the local Station Manager as too controversial! Other shows as well, but most notably for all y'all!
Highlight...again an early gay theme treated quite creatively!
