Review of Little Big Man (1970) by Jeff Z — 06 Sep 2009
Hey, wouldn't it be funny to have Dustin Hoffman do a western? A little. Hoffman plays an old man who relates his life to a reporter, telling him how he was raised by Indians and how he became the only white survivor of Custer's Last Stand.
Chief Dan George steals the show as Hoffman's grandfather Old Lodge Skins, Richard Mulligan is funny as Custer, and Faye Dunaway is sexy as the cliched preacher's wife who knows a LOT about sin.
At times interesting, at times boring, "Little Big Man" never seems to equal the sum of its parts.
