Review of Little Big League (1994) by Trevon R — 20 May 2011
Eh, if you take it too seriously, you might be an idiot. I must have watched this sometime around 1994 when it came out. Definitely a silly premise...where a 12-year old boy inherits the Minnesota Twins and makes himself manager, almost leading the team to the playoffs. I wonder if he is the one who brought Mauer in years later...
I just wanted to watch a movie and a baseball movie seemed good enough. Kinda cool to see some of the old parks and players. The Baggy Dome is immortalized in the movie, as is Comiskey in Chicago. I was not a KC fan growing up so can't tell if that is really Wally Joiner (I suspect it was), but that was definitely Ken Griffey, Jr.! All these years later and the guy is still electric with the best left-handed swing (probably the best swing period) the game has ever seen, and they even have him take away a homer.
So pretty cheesy flick, obviously, but I'm sure a good one for little boys. Is kinda fun imagining how it would be to own/manage a ball club, especially at that age. I'm in and out of MLB, but I've always loved the stadiums!
