Review of Little Ashes (2008) by Simon F — 18 Jul 2009
I always thought Salvador Dali was odd, and recall having to visit the museum dedicated to him in Figueres, Catalonia a few years ago with my partner at the time who for some earthly reason, rated him.
Now having watched the film, I can only presume he was extremely odd, and a fascist to boot. Not an especially healthy combination.....anyway, to review the film. I was surprised that this anglo-catalonian (and spanish??) film would be with sub-titles, but it was spoken in English.
Good cinematography, and generally well acted. Early in the film, at times it almost appeared vaguely "Brideshead-ish", but generally it does capture the pre-Franco period well leading up to the Spanish civil war in the mid-30s.
I knew a bit about Dali before the film, but very little about the poet Lorca; the film has inspired me to find out more.
