Review of Lionheart (1990) by Cem "Regi" "Pixelmannen" . — 26 May 2011
This is probably one of the most epic martial arts/street fight movies ever made- The movie is about Leon who goes AWOL from the French Foreign Legion in Africa after he finds out his brother has been murdered by ruthless gangs in a faffed up drug deal.
The movie however does not take the predictable turn of a revenge epic as you would expect from the genre - it tells more the tale of the family and how they survive in the harsh American urban environment.
Leon becomes a street fighter, in a brutal bloodsport where he risks life and limb to make money.Its an epic story told in an extremely unique way and the movie was remade a few times by other actors (not official remakes but I remember one movie recently called 'Fighting' which borrowed heavily from this movie.
Along with JCVD this is probably the best on screen performance of Jean Claude Van Damme.A must buy for all martial arts movie fans and movie fans in general.
