Review of Lion (2016) by Monika S — 26 Feb 2017
Beautifully told story about the generosity of the human spirit, and the struggle to reconcile western and developing country identity (and guilt). The Brierleys, in particular, represent the kind of fearlessly empathetic Australia I wish we all aspired to.
They represent the best of us. Most compelling performance I've seen from Nicole Kidman in years. My only criticism is that sweeping scenescapes meant to establish a sense of place are used excessively at times.
Whilst visually stunning they do slow the momentum of the film down somewhat.
