Review of Lion (2015) by Joshua M — 29 Apr 2017
It took a while to get into the story at first (a little better pacing, maybe with the story interspersed with the modern-day plot, might have worked better for me, but at least I could still follow it decent enough), but once the real plot arc was put into play, it became a very entertaining film.
I haven't been that much a fan of Dev Patel's work in the past, but the actor has come into his own with a stunning portrayal of Saroo, a man who is trying to reconcile his new life with the past that was taken from him; he impressively brings the audience along on his journey with intimate, gut-wrenching acting.
Second only to "Hunt for the Wilderbeasts," it is one of the most underrated movies of last year, and definitely one of its best movies.
