Review of Lincoln (2012) by Larry Z — 21 Nov 2013
I get that Lincoln is the one Republican the Left respects because he wielded his Executive powers to the max (as much as they tell themselves it's because he ended slavery), but a decent performance by Day-Lewis isn't enough to sell 'Lincoln' to me over all its retroactive, liberal proselytizing.
Bottom line, that approach is actually anti-history and strains credibility here. I suppose I shouldn't have expected anything different from a film based on the writings of Doris Kearns Goodwin -- and directed by Spielberg, for that matter.
