Review of Lincoln (2012) by Mark R — 30 Aug 2013
A tour de force for director and stars Daniel Day Lewis and Tommy Lee Jones.
Spielberg was able to make a very talky and potentially dry movie a thrilling and engrossing piece of entertainment.
The only slight detraction being Sally Field's performance at times being overly melodramatic.
I especially enjoyed the flamboyant boisterous turn by James Spader.
It might have benefitted from a slightly tighter structure and a firmer hand with editing to reduce the runtime by about 30 minutes, but its Spielberg so it's very hard to find real fault there.
At times the film felt like Civil War The West Wing The Movie, and for me there is no higher piece of praise.
