Review of Lincoln (2012) by Andy G — 28 Aug 2014
The movie shows a great human side to Lincoln we don't often see, and also shows both the best and worst sides of the political process. The movie will be most appreciated by those interested in history and politics, but the performance of Daniel Day-Lewis will keep most people drawn in, regardless of whether they care about what's happening in the story or not. The story, however, is not only important for our nations history. It tells an important lesson about how politics has a way of preventing the right things from getting done, and the hard work it takes to get those things to happen. It paints a picture of many of the times, past and present, when politics and human ignorance and tradition has gotten in the way of progress. It's not often you see a movie about events that took place 150 years ago and it feels as if it perfectly echoes the way things work today. Spielberg and Daniel Day-Lewis made a fantastic movie, and an important one, and did it in a way we haven't really seen before, as well as a near perfect representation of Lincoln himself.
