Review of Lincoln (2012) by Danny O — 16 Mar 2015
Lincoln is a very well made movie. The cast is very impressive, with Daniel Day-Lewis rising above the others as President Lincoln. Tommy Lee Jones and Sally Field also do remarkable jobs. The long 2.5 hur film is almost all talking about getting the 13th amendment signed.
Unbelievably, nearly all of it is compelling and interesting. This credit goes to Spielberg's excellent direction and a solid script. The film isn't flawless, there are a couple of pacing issues with it.
The whole movie crawls at a very slow pace and covers a very small period of time. One thing that disappointed me was the glossing over of one of the most shocking events in history, the assassination of Presidemt Lincoln.
With a lack of any action, this would have been the perfect time to showcase a scene like this for the climax. However the film is really good, and even though you know the outcome of the voting, those scenes were so well done.
Lincoln gets 4/5 stars (B+).
