Review of Limitless (2011) by Vincent D — 28 Sep 2013
This movie reminded me a lot of "Phenomenon" (1996) with John Travolta. In both movies, the main character gains super-intellectual abilities where they can learn languages instantly, retain massive amounts of data and information, and make logical connections to predict just about anything.
The differences in the movies is that in this movie the power comes to Eddie Morra from an addicting drug with extreme side effects and deadly dependencies symptoms, as opposed to an unexplained flash in the sky.
The other difference is that this movie leads the main character into a world of high finance politics, which brings the plot into thrilling circumstances, whereas Travolta's film became a romantic tearjerker.
It was an exciting movie, where you could tell from the beginning that the main character was heading for disaster. Throw Robert De Niro into the mix as the Wall Street tycoon to work with the newly acquired talents of Mora, and things become even more entertaining.
A fun sci-fi film, that's not overly outlandish.
