Review of Limitless (2011) by Omar L — 24 Jul 2014
Increased intelligence = a need to be more stylish, apparently. At least Bradley Cooper looks the part, but the subtlety is lacking. Perhaps the biggest question is why the drug exists in the first place, and how did Vernon get his hands on so much? But the movie doesn't bother asking such question, but rather spends its time examining how increased intelligence leads to playing the stock market.
The goals are ultimately self-serving, but Cooper makes it look really cool, while De Niro is a capable foil/mentor. Unfortunately, the movie doesn't seem as ambitious with the concept of superior intelligence as it should, and it seems to say that untested, radically powerful drugs are ok as long as they're taken in moderation.
