Review of Like Someone in Love (2012) by Aephraim S — 15 Apr 2013
A fascinating, slow-paced film. Walking out of it, I had many things I wanted to say about it... but then I discovered that among the 5 of us who saw it together, I don't think any two read it the same way.
So, suffice it to say that it was a penetrating study of Japanese society, Iranian society, and/or just the human condition in general; it had a bewildering or quite natural or extremely disappointing ending; and it was an Iranian movie made completely Japanese or a Japanese movie which just happened to be made by an Iranian.
Please! See it and help us resolve all of this! In any event, if he can't give up his obsession with filming from automobiles, I at least have to approve of his choice to move on from the Iranian countryside to Tokyo.
(If he continues, perhaps we'll end up with the 12-hour version of "Night on Earth.").
