Review of Like Someone in Love (2012) by Artus U — 04 Dec 2013
From feted Iranian master Abbas Kiarostami comes a tender portrait about the unlikely sparks that fly between a student-prostitute and her client, an educated old professor. Through Kiarostami's sensitive gaze, nothing is what it seems.
An encounter that could have been awkwardly sleazy turns into a surprisingly affecting (and amusing) look at the importance of make-believe, i.e. the lies we tell and the masks we put on, to protect our loved ones and to attain (self-delusional) contentment.
