Review of Lights Out (2016) by Paul B — 19 Aug 2016
Lights Out tells the story of Rebecca, her brother and mother who through out their lives have been haunted by the presence of supernatural being who only appears when the lights are turned off.
I was surprised at how good this film was, although there a few jump scares typical of horror movies these days, it was quite suspenseful and tense. On a budget of less than $5 million it's extremely well made and well acted, specifically by Gabriel Bateman who plays Martin, the brother of the family. The films main strength is it's simple premise which plays on our natural and rational instinct to be afraid of the dark.
At 81 minutes, it's perfectly paced and is a fun horror movie.
