Review of Lights Out (2016) by Niki V — 04 Sep 2016
Most people have seen the 3 minuet short film this film is based on. I must admit to being skeptical when I went to see this primarily because most translations from short to feature film end up with a lot of pointless waffling.
This is a film done right, they fill out the film with story and the struggles of interpersonal relationships which are relevant to the story so no waffling. The basic story is about a ghoul/ghost that haunts a depressive mother and terrorizes her children, its only weakness - light.
Turn on the lights and she can't come in of course if she cuts the power your stuffed. If you don't like jump scares though avoid, the majority of the horror is jump scares but given the nature of the ghoul/ghost its understandable and that's not to say the film doesn't make good use of tension and dread.
