Review of Lights Out (2016) by Aïko G — 06 Nov 2016
Lights Out is a horror movie that begins rather hopeful, but ends in using the stereotypical scary genre moments we have all seen a hundred times over. We see a broken family being haunted by a creature that can only live and attack in darkness.
This haunting brings them together and they try to survive the constant danger. When they discover what the being is and how it is connected to the family they try to find a way to get rid of it. As you can see, nothing surprising on the story front.
Lights out has a strong beginning, the light and the darkness theme together with some typical jump scare moments work. But only for a little while, it gets very repetitive and extremely predictable. Even the 'shocking' ending was obvious and could be seen coming miles away.
The acting performances aren't bad, but certainly don't help up this movie's quality.
