The premise is basic, to a fault, and could really have done with some development, particularly with the abrupt ending. As it is, the simplistic nature of the narrative is for emphasis on the 'fear factor,' and while it does have some jumpy moments initially, the repetitive nature of these 'scares' becomes tiresome and contrived.
One plus is the excellent acting across the board however the characters don't have enough depth for me to give too much of a damn where they end up. 'Lights Out' isn't the worst horror out there but it does join the long list of forgettable flicks within that particular genre.
