Review of Lights Out (2016) by Dave J — 10 Jul 2017
Unlike most movies in the horror genre today, lights out doesn't full rely on jumpscares. There is a story behind it all. There were a lot of jumpscares but they did it right. They created suspense, tension, and it just made you so nervous.
With those ingredients, you can make some good scares. Besides jumpscares though, lights out has a good premise. It brings back our fear of being afraid of the dark. That whole premise to me was pretty creative and it worked out pretty well.
The acting in this movie was pretty good. I think the actors gave good performances. Overall I'd say this is a really good modern horror movie. It brings a new story to the table. It's able to balance telling a good story and scaring you at the same time.
With these ingredients, you're in for a horrifying time. A-.
