Review of Lights in the Dusk (2006) by Miikka O — 03 Dec 2008
Well, it could not be any more Kaurismäki than this. The movie obviously was once again written, directed and edited by him and we sure can see that. And all the regular Kaurismäki elements are there, too.
It's never about success stories or glamor, it's about little people living their lives and trying to look forward to the next day. The story is okay, not as deep as in some of his movies, but still it's quite magical how a slow-paced movie like this be still so intense.
And of course, it's all wrapped together with consistent visuals and to-the-point score. Definitely worth checking out for Kaurismäki fans and maybe also for those who can enjoy a bit alternative, artsy films.
