Review of Life of Pi (2012) by Damjan R — 27 Nov 2013
Supremely directed and visually stunning, Life of Pi is the type of film that rewards upon subsequent watches despite being deceptively simple. There are little nuggets of pure cinematic gold here, like the 'ocean depths' sequence that in a way echos the space travel scene from Kubrick's 2001.
Ang Lee is one of my favorite directors and his style is fully on display here. I only wish that the film left a little more space for interpretation, and did away with some of the narration, despite it working rather well.
Recommended for everyone.
