Review of Life of Brian (1979) by Dave H — 07 Apr 2014
Monty Python's "Life of Brian" shows that the Pythons are still funny long after "Flying Circus" had ended. Parodying the tale of Jesus Christ, the film focuses on poor Brian who creates an (impromptu) absurd faith with numerous equally absurd followers who pester him to no end, especially since Brian made up ridiculous holy sermons just to escape the Romans. Humorous acting & moments & unique direction make this film second best to "The Holy Grail" & also proves how silly religion can be (the controversy that arose is understandable, but nevertheless those Christian fanatics have no sense of humor)!
Terry Jones - "I think the the film is heretical, but it's not blasphemous.".
Eric Idle - "It's a heresy.".
John Cleese - "I don't think it's a heresy. It's making fun of the way that people misunderstand the teaching.".
Jones - "Of course it's a heresy, John! It's attacking the Church! And that has to be heretical.".
Cleese - "No, it's not attacking the Church, necessarily. It's about people who cannot agree with each other.".
The truth has been spoken, so Always Look On the Bright Side of Life! *whistles*.
