Review of Life Itself (2014) by Anthony B — 29 Mar 2015
A inspiring documentary that follows Roger Ebert's: childhood, alcohol addiction, foray into film, Beyond the Valley of The Dolls, winning the Pulitzer Prize, relationship with Gene Siskel, how he coped with Gene's death, his relationship/marriage with Chaz.
. these are all interweaved with the main story which details Roger Ebert's last few months in the hospital/rehabilitation before he tragically passed away. There is also commentary/interviews from the people closest to Roger like his wife Chaz, Gene Siskel's wife, childhood friends, and a few hollywood cameos paying tribute to the great reviewer.
This documentary is perfect for any film buff, anyone looking for life inspiration, fans of Hoop Dreams, fans of Siskel/Ebert, or fans of film in general. *****/*****.
