Review of Life Is Sweet (1991) by Pip D — 09 Aug 2009
My first experience of watching a Mike Leigh film and it lived up to every expectation! There are no frills on a film like this and it was refreshing to see a story being told that has no firm ending other than the credits rolling up.
Steadman is sheer brilliance as the mother, just on the endearing end of annoying. Broadbent and Spall both showing why they became the names they have in the present. But for me it was the performance of Skinner and Horrocks that won my heart, so brilliantly cast as twins, they both show that awkwardness that we all experienced in out late teens/early 20s.
Watch this!
