While it might not have been in best taste to give a light, comedic treatment to one of history's most unflinchingly horrifying tragedies, Roberto Benigni's ambitious and heartfelt performance helps add a charming subtext to the Holocaust, and ends up turning a heavily devastating subject into a surprisingly adventurous bonding experience between a father and son.
