Review of Life as a House (2001) by Kristen D — 24 Jan 2008
Great movie--one of my favorites. It's strongly comparable to American Beauty, but less chilling.
Only thing about this film I really object to is how Sam's appearance is so directly linked to his level of corruption/reform. Seriously, since when do make-up, dyed hair, and piercings equal 'bad, unhappy person'? Because obviously--as this film well-demonstrates--you can be totally messed up WITHOUT all of those things, yet he's the only one that has to get a make-over throughout his transformation.
And I think he looked sexier with the eyeliner, dammit.
