Review of Life as a House (2001) by Claire B — 30 May 2010
This movie was made purely to evoke emotional reactions out of its viewers, and thus lost its soul. The swelling soundtrack is featured in every possible sad, touching, or even slightly melancholy scene to the point that I was distracted from the actual narrative.
I feel like the filmmakers decided that their mantra would be "a movie is only a good movie if it makes you cry, laugh and feel deeply" and they took the story and tried to make it as touching and heartwarming as possible to the point that it was ridiculously cheese and made me feel indifferent.
I also hate Jena Malone so her presence was hard for me to forgive.
