Review of Life as a House (2001) by Melanye B — 29 Apr 2010
I really liked this. Not because, at the time, I was going through a 'phase' with Hayden (phase ended shortly after Revenge of the Sith left theaters). I really thought this was a good story, fleshed out by good actors, accompanied by a good soundtrack.
The building of a house was the perfect symbolism for an apathetic and confused teen finally finding himself and coming into adulthood. There was a lot of good acting here by Kevin Kline and Kristin Stewart, and it showcased just what Hayden and Jenna could do with their talent if given the chance. There were some slow parts, and a few moments that didn't quite work for me, but on the whole, this was a great film, and a good one for parents to watch with their teenaged kids.
