Review of Life (2017) by Steven W — 21 Oct 2017
There is nothing overtly obnoxious about Life. For a mid-range budget picture it is mildly entertaining. Many will say that being trapped with a dangerous alien life form in space is a bit played out. I would agree, but only as far as something like boy meets girl is played out. It only sucks when you don?t care about the boy or girl, or you ask no new questions.
Life suffers a bit from this malady, an evolving alien life form could still pack a punch as a concept, but this film just bypasses that and goes straight to monster movie. You could also highlight a battle of wits between the life form and the scientists, but they don?t do that either. It all just feels rudimentary.
In the end this film doesn?t fail, so much as just not really up the ante on anything.
