Review of Life (2017) by Rhonda N — 26 Mar 2017
Though there are obvious references to Ridley Scott's 1979 masterpiece Alien, it is those subtle references to Stanley Kubrick's 1968 tour de force 2001: A Space Odyssey that are more important to note in this 2017 Daniel Espinosa oeuvre Life - the delicious score, the dynamic shots, the philosophical undertones - that make it more succulent than your average sci-fi/horror flick of late.
The cast plays well amongst each other, and though I may not agree with the actual alien design (I would have wanted Calvin to have remained more Groot than Geiger), what makes for a wonderful film experience is when you leave asking more questions than getting all the answers.
The irony, really, is when we discover more about our humanity when we start dealing with alien life forms. Four out of five stars.
