Review of Licorice Pizza (2021) by Nickthecritick — 19 Apr 2022
A seventies ballad filmed with hands in pockets and a smile on his lips. Because the PTA film obeys a childish logic and proceeds unpredictably in a world that has (almost) banned adults. Adults, when they are there, enter the scene with their exaggerated and grotesque behavior, as often happens in PTA films.
The prologue is like lightning, it is love at first sight. History is as old as the world and its packaging has the 'flavor' of an old adage. In the image of its title, Licorice Pizza designates the unreal world of memories, where everything is possible.
Another wonderful film from PTA, not his best one (i prefer many other movies among PTA's ones) , but certainly the most nostalgic and the most heartfelt one. The "most commercial", in other words, many people would say.
