Review of Licence to Kill (1989) by Duncan W — 20 Oct 2008
Bond goes back to basics in this gritty late eighties adventure. Bond adventures seems to emulate a lot of other things poplar at the time and this clearly seems to be informed by the â??Miami Viceâ?? era of TV.
Dalton gives his best ever performance of Bond especially when his character is pushed to the limit. I especially love the scene where Della talks to bond about marriage. And his eyes say everything when his character says nothing at all.
The heartbreak of losing his wife is all there. Poop to all you Dalton naysayers! The film could do with a few more light touches as it can come across as completely humourless. Qâ??s there (for no real plot reason) for some quips and Wayne Newton is great as Professor Joe.
The main bond girls are also very good actresses as well as being gorgeous and the interplay between them and bond is believable. All in all itâ??s a great and extremely underrated film. Watch and enjoy â??Bless you Hearts!â??
