Review of Licence to Kill (1989) by Rob P — 08 May 2014
Daltons second and final outing as Bond predated the darker tone taken by Craig by nearly a decade and is all the better for it. More realistic and grittier with a welcome absence of gadgets whilst not scrimping on the spectacular stunts that the series is famed for.
A nice return of Hedison, from Live and Let Die, in the revolving door role of the Leiter character that gives Bond a much more personal agenda than in most of the series. Davi is a suitably strong and physically dangerous adversary for Bond as is a young Benicio Del Toro as Davi's heavy.
Its also great to see Q out in the field and given more to do than have stuff explode in the background. Its a shame that Dalton didn't get to continue in the role and I feel he is greatly underrated as Bond.
