Review of Liberal Arts (2012) by Brian V — 13 Jun 2013
This is Josh Radnor's vanity project, similar to Zach Braff's 'Garden State'. Where Braff seemed like he was trying to show to the world how 'sad' he can be, Radnor comes off as a borderline braggart of how much he reads (think soundtracks to Cameron Crowe movies). Also, I couldn't help but think throughout the movie: so THIS is how Ted Mosby met my mother!!!
Overall, the flick was enjoyable due to a decent storyline, strong performances from the supporting cast (IMO - Elizabeth Olsen had a strong follow-up performance to the last movie I saw her in: 'Martha Marcy May Marlene'). I also probably enjoyed it more than 'Garden State' because I connected to the character more on a personal level (age-wise, point in my life, etc. vs. being depressed, taking anti-depressants, having a dysfunctional family dynamic, etc.).
