Review of Liar Liar (1997) by Eric H — 31 Oct 2011
As popular as it was in the 90's and early 2000's, I think it's safe to say in 2011 that Jim Carrey's particular brand of comedy has run its course. Liar Liar is still entertaining to watch and has some good laughs but Carrey's more over the top moments of shameless gurning (and there are a LOT) just come off as embarrassing these days.
As for the father-son drama the film has at its heart, it's predictably syrupy, culminating in an ending that's so overblown it's borderline obscene! Still, at least it gives us a new spin on the old "airport chase" cliche.
