Great movie, but I'm disappointed that Clint thought he ultimately had to portray American soldiers as cold-blooded war criminals. Murdering POWs is the sort of thing the Japanese themselves would do, not the Americans.
Hollywood already churns out plenty of war movies that delight in portraying American soldiers as psychopaths. I would have credited Clint with higher principles.
